THE CHAUFFEUR SERVICE

As you are probably aware Legislation came into force on 1 July 2007 which prohibits smoking in public places & also vehicles being used by more than one person.

Under Part 3, section 11 of The Smoke-free (Excemptions & Vehicles) Regulations 2007, a vehicle is defined as "(a)...an enclosed vehicle and any enclosed part of a vehicle is smoke-free if it is used...(b) in the course of paid or voluntary work by more than one person (even if those persons use the vehicles at different times, or only intermittently).

It seems that your vehicle becomes the chauffeur's place of work & will, therefore, be a smoke-free area.

The regulations set out in detail the penalties involved & measurements of signs to be displayed in the workplace.  To relieve you of this task we have issued every driver with their own sign of the required dimensions to be displayed in your vehicle.

The enforcements of these regulations will be the responsibilty of local councils who are empowered to impose the following fines:

Smoking in the workplace - £30 Fixed Penalty

(increased to £50 if not paid within 15 days)

Failing to display a sign - £150 Fixed Penalty

(increased to £200 if not paid within 15 days)

or up to £1000 if dealt with in court.

Failing to prevent smoking in the workplace - up to £2500

Court only.
